Love and happiness go hand in hand. Self-love is a priority. You can love and serve others in a better way when you pledge to help yourself first. “Do not live as if you have ten thousand years left. Your fate hangs over you. While you are still living, while you still exist on this earth, strive to become a genuinely great person.”- Marcus Aurelius. This is my favorite quote from the book ‘The 5am club by Robin Sharma'.
There are some chemicals that play an important role in our everyday life if stimulated properly. Dopamine also called the ‘pathway to pleasure' increases with meditation, Oxytocin(the love hormone) increases with giving hugs, socializing and sharing our feelings and Serotonin(the happy chemical that reduces depression) is triggered by going for a walk, taking a shower and getting sunlight. When we exercise and do yoga, endorphins are released and give us a positive feeling in the body. So here are five simple ways to prioritize and fall in love with yourself.
Plan your mornings- Morning is a special Quiet time of the day take a deep breath before you start your routine . It is how you kick start your day that makes a good change in your mood and routine. I have read somewhere that simply making your bed in the morning and folding your sheet properly contributes to one task done on your to-do list. You can go for a walk, nature walk, listen to spiritual bhajans and religious songs, read your favourite book, meditate and exercise in the morning. “It is best to be up before daybreak, for such habits contribute to health, wealth and wisdom.” – Aristotle Thus, morning hours channelize our energy in a proper way and increase our happiness levels.
Figure out your mood enhancers- We are all in a tech-savvy world. Technology has contributed to our lifestyle in a million ways. But at the same time it has increased screen time, stress and overthinking. Are you all aware of your mood enhancers? If yes, follow them when you are wrapped in a bubble of sadness. If not, figure out some and make a priority list. I have made a separate section in my phone gallery which has screenshots and images of positive affirmations. When I feel low, I read that, walk and have a cup of coffee as a daily exercise routine . Mood enhancers can be as simple as sitting and having a cup of coffee, drawing a picture, reading something good or watching a movie. So find out yours and promise yourself to be happy. ‘Come what may, I will be happy' – is enough to help you stay in peace.
Learn a musical Instrument- I went for my guitar lessons two years back and it was such an incredible experience. Busy life doesn't always promise more happiness and money. Instead, it makes us stressful at some point or the other. So, learning a musical instrument affirms your mind that you are learning something new. Music creates a soothing impact on our soul. Guitar, veena, sitar, dholak, flute or tabla- learn any instrument you love and also make your kids learn what they like the most, practise it as daily routine . It will also refrain them from watching television. This is on my to-do list again- a plan that I am going to execute in summer 2022.
Make peace with your relations- Many times we fulfil all our roles and responsibilities nicely but still end up in discontentment, stress and grudges. maintain good mental health by Spending quality time with your relatives or friends .Maintaining peace with relations is an art which we all have to learn to master for our own peace of mind. At the same time, it is also important to step out of toxic and unhealthy relationships. But here my point is to cultivate love, joy, cheerfulness and honesty in all your existing relations so as to live freely and grudge free. It is necessary to water a plant for its growth. Similarly, nurturing your soul by maintaining peace with all your relationships makes you calm and stress free. In this way, you can live each day beautifully, smile from ear to ear and shine with all your heart.
