Research suggests that babies respond to various foods differently. Certain foods break down slowly, making it difficult to digest, causing gas in babies☹️. Hence, it is best to avoid feeding your baby some gassy foods, especially at night.

Here is a list of common foods that can cause gas and bloating in babies.

⛔ Foods to avoid at night:

 

  • Beans
  • Broccoli
  • Kidney beans (rajma)
  • Cabbage
  • Cauliflower
  • Radish
  • Oatmeal
  • Chickpeas (Chole)
  • Pears
  • Plums
  • Citrus fruits

 

Tips to minimize the problem

✔Soak the lentils for some time in water and also change the water several times and wash it thoroughly

✔Separate the stem and florets of broccoli. While stems are more challenging to digest, florets are more nutritious for your baby, as per experts.

✔While cooking gas-causing foods, add some fresh ginger to either the cooking water or the finished dish. Research suggests that ginger is an excellent digestive aid.

✔Avoid canned beans because they can be under-soaked or not rinsed properly. This may give your baby worse gas.

✔As per research, a baby should eat plenty of natural yogurt, as it helps balance the healthy bacteria in the gut.

It is not always necessary to take out a particular food item from your baby’s food menu as it has a reputation for causing gas. You can always consult the Pediatrician/ health professional before introducing such foods.

Gas in toddlers is a very common problem. Some home remedies with available ingredients in household that u can try which will quick relief to your toddler are as follows

1. Hing (Asafoetida) and ghee on stomach : Take a I tsp of Hing mix it with a 1tsp. of ghee and apply it on toddlers stomach. Your little one will feel instant relief

2. Castor oil and betel leaf : Apply I tsp of castor oil in the tummy region and cover it with betel leaf. It will help in treating stomach ache and will improve the digestive system.

3. Burping of infants : Burping of breastfed infants such as patting them on the back when they are lying down could also be useful in treating stomach pain and releasing gas.

4.Yoghurt : Use more yogurt in toddlers diet if he is more than 9 months old.it will help improve babies digestive system
