Congestion In Babies And How To Treat It

During winters, and otherwise too, congestion is a very common problem in babies. Congestion makes the babies fussy and difficult to handle. It also makes the babies restless and sometimes sleep deprived. In order to handle congestion a number of home remedies can be followed. Home remedies are a way better than and other medicines which are available to cure congestion since they do not have any kind of side effects and also keep babies away from antibiotics.
Below are a few home remedies to treat congestion in babies:
Hot oil massage
For this you may use pure mustard oil. Heat the oil in a pan. You may take 2 tablespoons of oil. Now add a few fenugreek seeds. Now add a small quantity of carom seeds to this. Also add three to four cloves of garlic to this. Hit the concoction the garlic changes to golden brown color. Apply this to baby's chest when warm. Now place a price of cotton on this and cover the baby by his clothes. Here are the benefits of massaging your baby.
Steam is the best option to cure congestion in babies. For this you can make your baby sit with you in a source of steamy air. Or you can sit in a closed bathroom with hot water running to create steam. But for this you need to be extra conscious and handle your baby with utmost care.
Honey has been used since ages for curing congestion and cough in babies and also for curing some similar symptoms. For this you can dip one of your fingers in honey and then make your baby lick your finger. You can do this 2-3 times a day for better results.
You can give turmeric milk to your baby. This should be given in a limited quantity. You can add a little turmeric powder to milk and feed it to your baby during night. Turmeric due to its antiviral and anti-inflammatory properties can cure congestion, cough and runny nose in babies.
Indian basil is known for its various properties to cure cough congestion and related symptoms. For this you can boil 20-30 leaves of tulsi in some water and give it to your baby at an interval of 3-4 hours. Give it warm to your baby. You can also add a little honey to this.
You can use this oil directly. Apply few drops on baby's clothes. The fragrance of this oil is soothing and helps baby breath comfortably during congestion.
This can be given to babies above 2 years of age. Prepare a mild chamomile tea and let your baby sip it warm. It acts as a great soother for congestion and sore throat.
Warm a little ghee. Add a pinch of salt to it. Apply this on baby's throat. This helps in curbing congestion to some extent.
Other than these you can also make a string of thread by tying 7-8 cloves of garlic and tie it around the baby’s neck. This also keeps the baby’s nasal passage warm and eliminates congestion.
You can follow one or two above mentioned remedies for curing congestion in your baby. Sticking to one may not be that beneficial. Part from this if your baby shows severe symptoms of congestion you need to see the doctor immediately.
