It was the 26th of December and I was packing my things up. In the next room, some of my mother’s friends could be heard talking.
“How brave your daughter is! Traveling alone with a kid, that too during Corona?”, I could hear one of them speaking.
I simply did not understand what the fuss was all about. I have come across mothers who are worried about traveling with their kids during the Corona. If you keep certain things in your mind and follow tips you could safely make the trip even if you are alone.
This has to be the most difficult part. Even though my son knew how to scrub his hands in order, but I couldn’t keep him from scratching his eyes, occasional trips of his little hands to his mouth. These little cutie pies don’t know what they are doing wrong and if the situation arises, will give you a lecture too. Sanitizing those hands doesn’t mean the danger has passed. Chemical-laden these sanitizers can also cause your baby to have a bad stomach. So, you need to have an eye there.
It is best if you can have a small bottle with a cover. You could easily spray it with the disinfectant if the need arises. Sometimes we are so worried, and kids are so excited we don’t remember that our child has not drunk water until he gets cranky. I kept a few small juice boxes with me to give him options. This did the trick. Even if I forgot he would come and ask for water.
I remember visiting a store with my baby once. The person holding the sanitizer sprayed it on our hands but as he is small and stood near my hand, the droplets irritated his eyes. Such a ruckus was created with us running with him to the car to get his eyes washed. I understood that day that we need to have an alternative. Sanitizing wipes were a blessing to me. Keep one in your hand and you can keep wiping your kid’s hands all the time.
Children may be small, but they are quite intelligent. Children are good absorbers and imbibe everything that is related clearly. So, before starting a trip start preparing your kid mentally and physically. Tell him this 2-3 days before the travel date. This will set his mind and he will enjoy the trip instead of being alert.
It is best if you could give him a motive as I did. I told him he could meet his father and that did the job. Traveling with a kid, no matter what the age, is really difficult. Especially if you are all by yourself and he or she is a hyperactive one. One thing that I understood from this experience is that if you treat your kid like your best friend, the traveling will become much easier and entertaining.
A little bit of strategizing things can help you plan a perfect trip without any hassle. COVID-19 is dangerous but if you follow a hygienic attitude you won’t have to worry about traveling with your kid.
