Recently we moved into our new house, yes not a big deal in normal times. But COVID phase isn’t normal at all and thus shifting a house in this scenario was definitely a big task which needed to be planned perfectly. It was compulsory and couldn’t be postponed any further as we were already running two months late.

Shifting seemed more difficult because we had two little kids along too. So definitely everything was planned keeping in mind safety of the whole family. In normal times we would have preferred hiring any freight forwarding agency to pack and move each and every luggage. But of course it wasn’t at all could be done in this phase.

So, here in this article I will describe everything that we did, right from the idea to planning and execution before moving out from our old house to reaching the destination.

Idea:

  1. To make sure that none of the stuff is directly exposed to the outsiders or the labourers except the furniture and white goods.
  1. To keep in mind that the kids in no way come in contact with the people.

Planning:

  1. It’s difficult with kids and office to manage things at once and so one needs to plan everything effectively as per the time they keep in hand till the final date of moving. So first and foremost thing is to decide the date of finally leaving that house, to know the time or duration you have in your hands.
  2. Make an approximate list of all the household items you have.
  3. We were sure that we won’t be taking help of the labourers to pack our household items and so most of the packing was to be done by us.
  4. We did hire an agency for moving the furniture and white goods. But as the cartons were not available on any online store at that moment, we decided to order the cartons from the same company itself.
  5. So as per the list of the items, we placed an order for the cartons and packing tapes to pack everything properly.
  6. We started packing the goods which were not in regular use which included Books, extra crockeries, extra utensils, the clothes which were not in regular use.
  7. The most important thing while packing is to be ready with a marker and either you can use the notepad of your mobile or any diary. Every carton that’s packed needs to be marked with the items inside it. Like clothes, temple items, books, utensils etc. And the entry of the items in one carton should be made in notepad or diary.
  8. Also, make it a point that the size of cartons shouldn’t be very big or too small. It should be around 30’/18’/18’ so that’s easy to handle while shifting.
  9. The crockeries or any fragile item needs to be wrapped carefully with the bubble wrap to avoid any kind of breakage.

Execution :

  1. As our date of finally shifting from that house was already fixed we made sure that each evening after office we try to pack as many items as we can.
  2. We made the list of all the items packed in cartons and also marked the numbers on each carton packed.
  3. Once the labourers start shifting the items the kids should be monitored well and kept in a separate room.
  4. Make sure to put on the masks before the outsiders till everything is moved well.
  5. Once the items reach to the required destination, it will be a good idea to sanitise everything from outside.
  6. Always try to unpack the kitchen items first and also make a room ready too to make your little ones sleep well.

Keeping these points in mind, you can avoid hassles while shifting. Hope it is helpful to you all.
