Observation skills help children to explore objects around them.

In daily lives the more critically a child will observe the more he will grasp from his surroundings'. We may provide them with the most technologically advanced schools or enrol them in the best extracurricular activities but it's only their inquisitiveness that is going to help them to unfold the information.

Children observe and imitate their surroundings. These scientific observation skills frame their psychological behaviour and it's vital for the healthy functioning of the body. We as a parent should know that children are not a piece of clay that should be moulded in a perfect shape but they are like a folded puzzle you need to help them unfold to fit the pieces right.
Children should be observant enough to gather information and communicate it well. The more observant a child is the more his brain will strengthen leading to better cognitive development.
Parents often get confused between observation skills and learning as they think the more we teach our child the more intelligent he becomes but this ideology is not right. They should adopt methods that will increase their observation skills and as result, their learning ability will get improved.
Here are a few methods parents can adopt to increase their child's observational skills.

  • Positive words of Encouragement

Encouragement is a very important step in your childhood development process, parents should encourage their child in a positive manner. These little encouraging lines like "I believe in you" or "I trust in you” etc. can do wonders for them. It builds their confidence to be more explorative. They should feel comfortable asking you more questions. And If you will not encourage them the first time then they will hesitate the second time and if the same continues then there will be no third time.

  • Indulge in outdoor activities

It is said that the more children will play the more they will learn. Children need to explore the outdoors to have coordination in motor and spatial development. And this will also teach them to live in harmony with nature. The outdoors plays will raise them in a way that you can never imagine. You can force them to learn but the concepts that they explore themselves are the ones they will remember forever and will have a real understanding of. Parents need to provide the right conditions to let them explore their imagination.

  • Interaction with family & friend
Nowadays we don't get time to meet family and friends more often and after this Covid situation the social gatherings have become impossible. Children should interact with the extended family and friends to develop the skills of knowing individuals and the societal dynamics. Lonely children often experience poor peer relationships and therefore express more loneliness than the children who are in touch with their family and friends. In addition the feelings of sadness, boredom, and alienation also arises from staying alone.
  • Limited screen time

In today's era, we can't deny the fact that technology has overpowered everything and the younger generation needs to be well versed with it. We can't keep them away from technology completely but we need to limit their screen time to an extent that they should not fall prey to gadgets. Parents should pay attention to their online activities or they should introduce them to online learning apps to make learning and fun go hand in hand

  • Exposure to the outer world
The more they are exposed to the real world the more their observational skills will enhance. As they will observe Plants, animals, infrastructure, vehicles etc. they will develop an understanding of the outer world.
Engaging and observing people will make them express themselves properly.
Exposure to the outer environment will also make them adaptive in difficult situations also. Don't make them live in a comfortable cocoon of their homes.
The parents nowadays are too much exhausted in their jobs and these societal pressures of perfections are affecting the children also as we are expecting too much from these little creatures. The outer world is brutal nowadays for those who are not showing extraordinary talents.
Don't let these unrealistic standards steal your little one's childhood, let them learn at grow at their own pace and enjoy their childhood as well.
